In my practice as a mental health therapist and life coach, I work with a lot of women from different backgrounds. My clients include mothers, millennials, and career-orientated, professional women. I found one thing in common with several of them; most of them neglect the basic self-care practices. Out of the many self-care activities, this concern has led me to provide a key resource where I will share three free self-care activities that can be beneficial to you during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Appreciate Privacy
Chadwick Boseman, the star of Black Panther, struggled with colon cancer for years and no one outside of his personal network knew a thing. I can imagine how difficult the media would have made it for him if he had shared his struggle earlier in his career. It is important that you maintain privacy during this time. This does not mean you should not share with people when you are struggling, but you should be very selective with who you let into your challenges. Protect your mental health by being careful with who you share your struggles with.
Guard Your Energy
With the news and social media bombarding us with things that continuously drain our energy, we must be mindful of how we indulge in these things. If you are not careful these things will completely sap your energy, leaving you drained.
Outside of these sources, there are people who will completely deplete your energy. Many times, our energy is affected by people because we have not established boundaries. You must be clear with how you want to be treated and respected. This starts with how you treat and respect yourself.
Take Time to Reflect
It is important to take time away from your usual activities and even those you usually communicate with. The time away should be spent alone in reflection. Use this time to focus on yourself. Do something that you love or work on your goals. The time you spend alone ironing out your thoughts and ambition will help to position you for a healthier future financially, spiritually, mentally, and physically. Self-care is extremely important. Think about it – if you don’t care for yourself, who will?
